Formation and treatment of landfill gas

Over the course of 15 to 20 years, approximately 100 to 200 m³ of landfill gas is generated from one ton of household waste, with a methane content of about 55%. This landfill gas is produced by the biochemical decomposition of organic material within the waste. This gas mainly consists of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). However, the gas also contains harmful organic silicon compounds (siloxanes), which can lead to deposits in CHP systems if burned untreated. Find out more about the methane phases in the decomposition process of landfill gas in our FAQ section.

Product overview

Gas filtration

Purify your gas from trace contaminants such as H2S, siloxanes, and VOCs with our activated carbon filters. Essential for a stable and cost-effective operation of your biogenic gas cleaning, you can rely on our advanced equipment.

Our solutions:

Gas conditioning

Often, gas cannot be purified cost-effectively, because it does not have the right  properties and composition (e.g., high water content). Our gas conditioning systems prepare gas for downstream purification, ensuring it is optimally processed for efficient use in gas engines.

Our solutions:

Gas drying

Gas drying removes water vapor from gas, making it a specific form of gas conditioning. Find all information about our cost-effective and efficient gas drying systems for biogas, sewage gas, and landfill gas.

Activated carbon from SILOXA is suitable for biogas, sewage gas and landfill gas

You can rely on SILOXA’s activated carbon to effectively clean your biogas, sewage gas, and landfill gas. With more than 10 different types of activated carbon, we are specialists in defining the right carbon for your specific application. Let us help you run your gas cleaning plant efficiently and profitably.

We recommend a simple gas analysis to check the exact gas contamination—this helps us to better serve you. Let us establish how much your gas is contaminated with hydrogen sulfide (H2S), siloxane, and VOCs, and together we will find the right activated carbon for your needs.

Affordable activated carbon including replacement and disposal

Let SILOXA help you find the most suitable, effective, and efficient type of activated carbon for the filtration of your installation for the purification of biogas, sewage gas, or landfill gas, as part of the overall cleaning process. We offer a wide range of options, from affordable standard activated carbon to specially developed activated carbon compounds. These high-quality activated carbons can absorb more contaminants and are less prone to self-ignition. Additionally, we provide a complete replacement service where we exchange the old, activated carbon for fresh carbon (either via the plug-in & -out system or on-site) and properly dispose of the spent carbon.

Our activated carbon service includes:

  • Expert advice: Which activated carbon will make your plant operate most efficiently?
  • High-performance or standard activated carbon; we have tailored solutions for every installation.
  • Best prices guarantee: We offer competitive pricing for each quality level.
  • Fast delivery: Whether you choose standard shipping or express delivery, we ensure prompt delivery of your activated carbon.
  • Complete service: We replace activated carbon for all manufacturers' systems and ensure smooth operation.
  • Waste management: let us take care of the proper disposal of your spent carbon.

Good to know

What type of activated carbon do I need for my plant?

Based on a simple gas analysis, we establish the right solution for the efficient operation of your gas plant. Benefit from our experience and obtain a free consultation today!

Why does SILOXA prefer to discuss activated carbon in liters and not in kg?

Our market-leading activated carbon filters, have a maximum filling capacity in liters. To ensure your filter is always at optimal performance, our  high-quality activated carbon is measured and delivered in liters, not kilograms. The same applies for filters supplied by other manufacturers.

Why is high-quality activated carbon so light?

The lower the specific weight of activated carbon (in g/l or kg/m³), the higher the pore volume of the activated carbon. A high pore volume means a lager contact surface, which leads to better purification. High pore volume is a quality characteristic of high-quality activated carbon.
