Combined heat and power (CHP) plants utilize cogeneration technology, allowing them to operate with any fuel or heat source at temperatures of 200°C or higher. In addition to traditional fossil fuels like lignite and heating oil, cogeneration plants can also run on renewable energy sources such as biogas, sewage gas, or landfill gas. In Germany, CHP plants powered by renewable energy are financially supported by regulations like the Combined Heat and Power Act (KWKG) and the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
