There are several types of iron-based products available to lower H₂S levels within various stages of the biogenic gas cleaning process, each with its own advantages and disadvantages (iron hydroxide, ferric chloride, ferric sludge, iron oxide, etc.). In addition to our extensive range of activated carbon products, we therefore also offer iron hydroxide and iron extrudate solutions.


Iron hydroxide combines performance and safety without compromising the installation or the quality of the digestate. It is specifically designed to reduce hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) levels in biogenic gases directly within the fermenter. It is introduced along with the fermentation substrates. Our high-quality products are made from naturally sourced iron, partially processed, with exceptional purity.

Ferroxa and Ferroxa+ for coarse desulfurization within the fermenter

Iron hydroxide is introduced along with fermentation substrates to reduce hydrogen sulfide (H2S) during fermentation. Ferroxa and Ferroxa+ are pure natural iron hydroxide product. Due their high iron content, the extra amount of material added into the fermenter is low, and because of the purity of Ferroxa and Ferroxa+, there are no additional sediments.

FERROXA is a pure, natural iron hydroxide that effectively and preventatively reduces the formation of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in the digester. The purity of FERROXA eliminates the need for additional sediment input. It does not originate from water treatment processes and, therefore, contains virtually no heavy metals.

FERROXA+ is a blend of iron hydroxide (25%) and synthetic iron (40%). Its unique composition and high iron content (32%) enable a very rapid curative action to reduce H₂S levels. To ensure long-lasting effectiveness, FERROXA+ is always used in conjunction with FERROXA at a ratio of 1 volume of FERROXA+ to 2 volumes of FERROXA.

FEPS: Specialized solution for desulfurization during filtration.

FEPS are iron pellets with which hydrogen sulphide can be effectively removed from technical and biogenic gases. It has been specifically developed for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from technical and biogenic gases within activated carbon adsorbers. It is composed of highly amorphous iron oxide, which efficiently and safely eliminates trace gases. Its highly porous structure provides a very high loading capacity, making FEPS a cost-effective solution. The uniformly shaped, pressure-resistant pellets ensure a low and consistent pressure drop within the packed bed.
