With our support, distributors can offer their customers innovative and reliable solutions, that meet the highest quality standards.

Biogas

In biogas plants, the anaerobic (without oxygen) breakdown of organic matter by microorganisms (fermentation) takes place in so-called digesters. Various raw materials such as animal manure, corn silage, or organic waste materials are used here for biogas production. The methane content in biogas is approximately 50-60%.

Generally speaking, Biogas is contaminated with hydrogen sulfide (H2S). In plants using renewable resources (NAWARO), this is also the primary impurity. When using other biomass, such as organic waste (co-fermentation), additional volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in biogas should also be expected.

Our activated carbon solutions:

  • NAWARO: ACO S, ACO BS, and ACO KOH
  • Co-fermentation: ACO DUO varieties

Sewage gas

During the treatment process, organic contaminants are removed from wastewater, together with the sewage sludge. In digesters, the anaerobic (oxygen-free) breakdown of organic matter—here, sewage sludge—occurs through microorganisms. Therefore, sewage gas is often referred to as digester gas. The methane content in sewage gas is approximately 55-65%.

Sewage gas is typically contaminated with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and siloxanes. In some cases, significant amounts of VOCs can also be found. The contamination of sewage gas with hydrogen sulfide is very low when iron compounds are used in the wastewater treatment process for sludge precipitation, as this also leads to a significant reduction of sulfur in the aqueous phase.

Our activated carbon solutions:

  • ACO DUO varieties
  • ACO SI varieties

Landfill gas

Landfill gas is produced in landfills as microorganisms break down the stored organic waste. The methane content in landfill gas is approximately 55-60%, but it can be significantly lower as a result of the technical extraction of the gas.

The impurities in landfill gas can vary greatly from one landfill to another, depending on the types of waste stored. VOCs — including siloxanes — are always present as impurities. Hydrogen sulfide is typically also found in landfill gas, but it is usually not the dominant impurity.

Our activated carbon solutions:

  • ACO SI varieties
  • ACO SIRP varieties

Product overview

Gas filtration

Use activated carbon filters to purify your gas of trace contaminants such as H2S, siloxanes, and VOCs. This is an essential requirement for the stable and efficient operation of energy recovery installations.

Our solutions:

Gas conditioning

Directly after exiting the digester or fermentation tank, biogas cannot be purfied or processed downstream in an economically efficient manner. This is because it has the wrong properties and composition, for instance high water content, low gas pressure, is free of oxygen etc. Siloxa offers the necessary technical components for gas conditioning to rectify this. These components can also be combined and delivered as pre-assembled compact modules. These compact gas conditioning systems ensure reliable gas transport through extended pipelines.

Our solutions:

Gas drying

Gas drying removes water vapor from gas, making it a specific form of gas conditioning. Find all information about our cost-effective and efficient gas drying systems for biogas, sewage gas, and landfill gas.

Good to know

What type of activated carbon do I need for my plant?

Based on a simple gas analysis, we establish the right solution for the efficient operation of your gas plant. Benefit from our experience and obtain a free consultation today!

Why does SILOXA prefer to discuss activated carbon in liters and not in kg?

Our market-leading activated carbon filters, have a maximum filling capacity in liters. To ensure your filter is always at optimal performance, our  high-quality activated carbon is measured and delivered in liters, not kilograms. The same applies for filters supplied by other manufacturers.

Why is high-quality activated carbon so light?

The lower the specific weight of activated carbon (in g/l or kg/m³), the higher the pore volume of the activated carbon. A high pore volume means a lager contact surface, which leads to better purification. High pore volume is a quality characteristic of high-quality activated carbon.
